Overview

Use this guide to install SignMitra Player on ChromeOS, pair it to your SignMitra account and configure a reliable unattended kiosk deployment through Google Admin.

Compatibility: ChromeOS 109 or newer on Chromebook and Chromebox devices, plus supported computers converted to ChromeOS Flex.

Choose the correct setup

How the two components work

The SignMitra Player PWA is the full-screen signage player and must remain the auto-launch kiosk application. The companion extension supports ChromeOS integration such as keep-awake control, player tab recovery, audio handling and dashboard-requested screenshot capture. Installing only the extension does not replace the player.

Before deployment

  • Use ChromeOS 109 or newer and install current ChromeOS updates before deployment.
  • Connect the device to stable internet, set the correct date and time, and connect the final signage display.
  • For an unattended corporate kiosk, make sure the device is enrolled in the correct Google Workspace organisational unit and that Chrome Enterprise management is available.
  • Create the destination screen and playlist in SignMitra Dashboard so pairing and publishing can be completed immediately.
  • Allow outbound HTTPS access to signmitra.com and the SignMitra media CDN. Also allow any external service domains used by your content, such as YouTube or meeting providers.

Network and offline playback

  • The first launch, pairing and initial content download require an internet connection.
  • Images, videos and supported slides continue offline after the first complete sync. Live webpages, cloud widgets, YouTube and meeting content require connectivity.
  • Keep the player online until the complete playlist has played once before testing offline mode.
  • When connectivity returns, the player reconnects, refreshes its schedule and downloads changed media automatically.

Operational checks

  • Confirm the PWA—not the companion extension—is selected as the auto-launch kiosk app.
  • Restart the device and verify SignMitra opens full screen without manual sign-in.
  • Verify the device is online in SignMitra Dashboard and that uptime, last seen and screen assignment update.
  • Publish a test playlist, confirm media and sound playback, then test a short network interruption.
  • For portrait screens, set device rotation in Google Admin or the ChromeOS display settings and verify the entire canvas fits.

Troubleshooting

  • Only the extension opens: launch https://www.signmitra.com/chromeos-player/ and keep the PWA as the kiosk auto-launch app.
  • Player does not auto-start: in Google Admin open Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Kiosks, select the organisational unit, set SignMitra Player as Auto-launch app, save and restart the device.
  • Pairing code is missing or rejected: verify internet, system time and available screen licences, then reload the player to generate a fresh code.
  • Black screen or missing media: allow signmitra.com and its CDN through DNS, proxy and firewall controls, then clear only the SignMitra site cache and sync again.
  • Audio does not start: enable autoplay/audio for the kiosk app and confirm the display output and volume are selected in ChromeOS.
  • Content fails offline: reconnect the device until all assets finish downloading and one full playlist cycle completes.
  • Policy changes do not appear: confirm the correct organisational unit, click Save in Google Admin, wait for policy sync and restart the ChromeOS device.
Security: Install the companion only from the official Chrome Web Store listing above and use the official signmitra.com player URL. Never share a device pairing code outside your organisation.
Step by Step Guide
Step 1: Choose personal or managed setup

Use the personal setup for testing and user-operated Chromebooks. Use the managed kiosk setup for unattended Chromebox, Chromebook or ChromeOS Flex signage.

Step 2: Personal setup: install the companion

Open the Chrome Web Store listing at https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/signmitra-chromeos-player/ppemmlpanaegniopmhchipceohgnifpg and select Add to Chrome. Review the permissions and confirm installation.

Step 3: Personal setup: open and pair the player

Open https://www.signmitra.com/chromeos-player/, choose Open full-screen player, and wait for the QR code or six-digit pairing code. In SignMitra Dashboard open Screens or Devices, choose Add/Pair Device, and scan or enter the code.

Step 4: Managed setup: enroll the device

Enroll the ChromeOS or ChromeOS Flex device in the Google Workspace organisation and place it in the organisational unit that will receive the signage policy.

Step 5: Managed setup: add the Player PWA

In Google Admin go to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Kiosks. Select the correct organisational unit, click Add, choose Add by URL, and enter https://www.signmitra.com/chromeos-player/?extension_id=ppemmlpanaegniopmhchipceohgnifpg.

Step 6: Set SignMitra as the auto-launch app

In the Kiosks page, use the Auto-launch app selector and choose SignMitra Digital Signage Player. Open its settings, enable health monitoring where available, allow offline operation and configure screen rotation for the display.

Step 7: Add the companion extension

Open the SignMitra kiosk app settings, locate Extensions, choose Add extension, and add the published extension using ID ppemmlpanaegniopmhchipceohgnifpg. The PWA remains the auto-launch app.

Step 8: Configure kiosk permissions and origins

Allow the app to manage power, enable audio/plug-ins where required, and add only the external URL origins used by your assigned content. Camera and microphone access should be enabled only for meeting or camera content.

Step 9: Save, restart and pair

Click Save in Google Admin, wait for policy sync, and restart the device. SignMitra Player should open automatically. Pair the displayed QR or six-digit code from SignMitra Dashboard.

Step 10: Publish and verify operation

Assign the screen, playlist or schedule and publish it. Keep the device online for the first complete sync, test sound and video, restart once, and verify cached media continues through a short offline test.
